Moldova represents a reference point for our national culture, being the cradle for great figures of Romanian Literature and Art. Memorial houses, churches, and fortresses are some of the most representative sites of the region. In Moldova you will also find ‘natural treasures’ such as national parks and national reservations.

Geography

The region of Moldova is situated in the Eastern part of Romania and is bordered in the North by Ukraine, in the East by The Republic of Moldovia, Transilvania and Bucovina in the West, Dobrogea and Muntenia in the South. Besides the Romanians, many ethnic nationalities such as: Ukrainians, Russians, Bulgarians, Csangos, and Roma live here.

 

The relief of Moldova is famous for its diversity and includes mountains, hills as well as fields and meadows. We find the mountains in the Western part, The Plateau and The Fields of Moldavia in the Central part of the region. The mountains that stretch in this area are: Tarcau Mountains, Ciucului Mountains, Nemira Mountains, Hasmas Mountains, Ceahlau Mountains, Stanisoarei Mountains, and Vrancea Mountains.

CITIES IN MOLDOVA

Iași

IASI, the former Cultural Capital of Moldova, is one of the most beautiful architectural jewels in the country, representative by The Palace of Culture, Union Museum, Roznovanu Palace, The House with Arches. 

Numerous museums, memorial houses, churches and monasteries, cultural centers, and relaxation spaces are found in this place that was the capital of Moldavia for three centuries. It is also the birthplace of many notable Romanian figures from various fields.

Piatra Neamț

PIATRA NEAMT is the residence of Neamt county and the place where  the history speaks through valuable monuments. One of the main attractions of the city is the Gondola along with the historical sites: The Royal Court, Cucuteni Museum, and the Memorial House ‘Calistrat Hogas’.

Bacău

BACAU, is representative for its impressive number of museums, memorial houses, and parks. The main attractions of the city are: The Astronomical Observatory ‘Victor Anestin’, ‘George Bacovia’ Memorial House, Vivariu Museum.

Botoșani

BOTOSANI is a city with numerous cultural buildings and the birthplace of many Romanian personalities.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

  • The National Park ‘Vanatori-Neamt’, shelters various species of birds such as colored doves, peacocks, chickens (?). The main ‘actors’ of the Park are the bison, along with deers, wild boards, Carpathian bears.

 

  • Slanic Moldova’ Resort is famous for its mineral springs and mofetta used for therapeutic purposes in various ailments. 

 

  • ‘Neamt Fortress’ is located at approximative 500 meters height on Plaies Peak. Famous names of historical figures, such as Petru I Musat and Stephen the Great are connected to this fortress.

 

  • The Palace of Culture’ in Iasi, breaths a European air that combines different architectural styles: Romantic, Neo-Gothic, and Neo-Baroque style. The Palace houses The National Museum of Moldova with four museums (History Museum, Science Museum, Art Museum, Ethnographic Museum).

 

  • ‘Copou Park’ in Iasi is the place where one can find various busts of important personalities of Romanian Culture.
