This way, you will discover some of its secrets and stories. Below you will find a list of five of the most interesting museums, representative of various fields.

Unique museums from Cluj Napoca

1.Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania

This is the first Romanian ethnographic museum and is nearly a century old. The institution is divided into two sections: the pavilions section and the open-air section. The pavilions section is located in the Reduta Palace on Memorandumului Street 21. Over the years, the building has witnessed notable events.
The museum includes the main exhibition, titled “Popular Culture in Transylvania” (from the 18th to 20th centuries), and the permanent exhibition “Touch and Understand – The Tactile Message of Traditional Peasant Objects.”

Visiting Hours:
Wednesday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (last entry is at 5:00 PM)
Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The open-air museum is located on the outskirts of the city, in the National Ethnographic Park “Romulus Vuia” on Tăietura Turcului Street. The setting brings together representative households specific to the area, craft workshops, popular architectural elements, and wooden churches.
From the city center, you can reach the museum by bus, lines: 26, 27, 28, 30, 41 to the “Piaţa 14 iulie” stop, or line 37 from Mihai Viteazul Square to the Tetarom Industrial Park.

2.Gate of Feleac

At the national level, this is the first private ethnographic museum and represents a true symbol of the Transylvanian peasant. Here you will find the embodiment of the households of three ethnicities: Romanian, Saxon, and Hungarian. In addition to the objects, folk costumes, and old photographs, you can experience an authentic traditional experience in the truest sense of the word. The owners allow visitors to wear traditional attire and invite them to the table to taste traditional dishes.
The museum is located about 4 km from the city, in the Colonia Sopor neighborhood, at number 20. To get there, we recommend using a taxi or personal car, as the bus will leave you 2 km away from your destination.

Daily: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (from November 1 to March 31)
Daily: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (from April 1 to October 31)

Ticket Prices: No entrance fee

3.Museum of Zoology

The museum brings together over 300,000 unique exhibits: from corals, starfish, and tropical butterflies to eagles, kangaroos, and large and small felines. As part of Babeș-Bolyai University, the space is located within the Faculty of Biology (Clinics 5-7), on the ground floor. Based on the multitude of exhibits, the museum ranks second nationally.

Saturday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

4.Botanical Museum of Babeș-Bolyai University

The museum is located at 42 Republicii Street, within the Alexandru Borza Botanical Garden. It houses a herbarium with over 655,000 sheets from around the world. The museum’s collection is complex and includes aromatic and spice products, medicinal plants, textile plants, and a collection of palm seeds.

Monday – Friday: 08:00 AM – 03:00 PM

The ticket prices are included in the admission fee for the Botanical Garden:

Full price (adults): 10 lei
Reduced price (children over 5 years, students from other universities, retirees): 5 lei
Children under 5 years old and persons with disabilities are exempt from paying the ticket fee.

5.Museum of Mineralogy

This is another museum within Babeș-Bolyai University, located at Mihail Kogălniceanu Street 1. It houses the only collection of meteorites in the country. Over 250 exhibits, some of which are rare even on a global scale, await discovery by curious visitors and enthusiasts of the field.

Tuesday – Friday: 11:00 AM – 02:00 PM
Group visits can be arranged outside of regular hours with advance planning.
